Dear Friends & Family,
We hope that you are staying healthy as we navigate this unprecedented disruption to our daily lives. Over the last 3 weeks that Californians have been sheltering in place, we have heard from many of you with questions about COVID-19, cannabis, and CBD. We are checking in today to share some information on what we know – and what we don’t know.
- CBD & Viral Infections: Last week, we collaborated with Project CBD on an analysis of cannabis and “cytokine storms,” the intense immune overreaction that appears to be causing respiratory distress in COVID-19 patients. We discovered that while there is some evidence to suggest that cannabinoids may be generally useful in inflammation, there is not a scientific consensus on CBD’s potential utility as an anti-viral agent. The Federal stranglehold on cannabis research continues to thwart studies that could answer this question.
- CBD & Anxiety: Many of us are anxious right now. We’re afraid of getting sick or of a loved one getting sick and we’re worried about the economic and social disruption of shelter-in-place. There is substantial support for the notion that CBD can help relieve stress. This article in the peer-reviewed journal, Neurotherapeutics, is particularly interesting as it reviews 49 preclinical, clinical, or epidemiological studies on CBD and anxiety.
CBD that’s ingested orally (rather than inhaled) can provide long-lasting relief. With that in mind, we’ve recently introduced Care By Design Gummies. These tasty treats come in three flavors and CBD:THC ratios. In support of your health, they’re all-natural, vegan, gluten-free, and absolutely delicious. Find your nearest dispensary here and see if they are doing deliveries and/or curbside pick-up.
We’ll continue to check in with you in the weeks ahead. Meanwhile, please join us on social media to ask your questions or share your experience. Stay connected and please let us know what you’re doing to stay healthy.
