Because we make products in five CBD-to-THC ratios, we get questions all the time about which ratios are right for each individual. We believe the “perfect ratio” depends on your tolerance for the psychoactive effects of THC. It also depends on the symptoms you’re treating and the time of day. For example, one might take a high CBD, low THC ratio in the morning for anxiety relief without feelings of impairment (like the 18:1), and a more balanced ratio of CBD-to-THC at night to help with sleep (like the 2:1 or 1:1). We recommend starting with a low dose of a low THC ratio for a few days and see how you feel. If you’re confident you can handle more THC, try the next ratio up and see if your symptoms improve further. We now offer Care By Design sample packs that include all 5 ratios so you can find what works for you. Find Care By Design near you here.
- The 18:1 and 8:1 are high CBD, low THC, and rarely psychoactive. These ratios are ideal for novice cannabis users or people who don’t want to get high. Some patients find CBD-dominant medicine particularly helpful for stress, mood elevation, and other mood disorders.
- The 8:1 and 4:1 are considered mid-range ratios. These are best for people who have some tolerance for THC and/or people whose symptoms respond better to more THC. Some patients find mid-range CBD:THC ratios particularly helpful for pain and spasms.
- The 2:1 and 1:1 are more balanced ratios. For some people they are psychoactive at moderate doses. Many people report find mid-range ratios helpful for treating pain, inflammation and sleep problems, in particular.
